Finance Partner Edgar Romo Joins DLA Piper Gallastegui y Lozano

DLA Piper announced today that Edgar Romo has joined the firm’s Finance practice as a partner in the Mexico City office, which is known locally as DLA Piper Gallastegui y Lozano.

Romo represents private equity funds, financial institutions, investment banks and real estate developers in finance-related transactions, including M&A, joint ventures and strategic partnerships. He assists local and foreign entities in connection with the authorization, incorporation and regulation of large corporations and financial institutions in Mexico.

“Edgar’s talents will be in high demand as direct foreign investment into Mexico continues to accelerate,” said Eduardo Gallastegui, managing partner of the firm’s Mexico City office. “Leveraging DLA Piper’s global platform, Edgar will bring to bear deep experience and a breadth of practice areas to US, international and Mexican clients who are navigating changes to the local market.”

Romo joins DLA Piper from Bufete Robles Miaja, S.C., where he led a finance and M&A practice, and is accompanied by associate Manuel Hallivis, who focuses on local and cross-border financings and M&A transactions. Corporate associate Pedro Manzano has also joined DLA Piper from a Hong Kong-based consulting firm.

“Mexico’s economy has improved steadily due to recent constitutional and regulatory reforms, particularly in the telecommunications, transportation, consumer goods and energy industries,” said Robert Gruendel, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Latin America practice and global co-chair of the firm’s Energy sector. “Adding Edgar to an already formidable finance team positions us to take even greater advantage of investment activity in those key areas on behalf of our clients.”

The arrival of Romo continues DLA Piper’s strategy of delivering services to clients around the world and in the Americas. In September, DLA Piper combined with Toronto intellectual property firm Dimock Stratton, and, earlier this year, opened a new office in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Romo received his J.D. from Universidad Iberoamericana, his LL.M. from Columbia Law School, and his graduate diploma in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics.
