Prominent capital markets Partner Xavier Mangino has joined Holland & Knight’s Mexico City office along with Senior Counsel Elena Ibarrola and Associates Adolfo Obregon and Alejandro Briceño Suárez. The team, which also includes two law clerks, joins from DLA Piper.
Mr. Mangino’s practice focuses on the representation of large Mexican and multinational public clients in connection with their operations in Mexico, the U.S. and Europe, including the representation of these entities in connection with debt and equity capital markets, foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions and financing matters, including structured finance, leverage finance and general finance transactions.
As part of his professional career, Mr. Mangino serves on the board of directors of several private and publicly traded companies, both Mexican and transnational. These include the boards of Alsea, S.A.B de C.V., Qualitas Seguros, S.A.B. de C.V., Proteak Uno, S.A.B. de C.V. and Grupo Sports World, S.A.B. de C.V.
“We are thrilled to have Xavier and his team join our Mexico City office as part of an ongoing and targeted growth of our Mexico practice capabilities,” said Luis Rubio Barnetche, executive partner of Holland & Knight’s Mexico City office. “Xavier is recognized and highly regarded by general counsel of Mexican public companies, as well as by Mexican regulatory authorities. His team will provide a strong complement to the securities work we currently perform for our clients, which includes both Mexico- and U.S.-based legal work.”
“Holland & Knight continues to build its already substantial Mexico and Latin America practice with the addition of Xavier and his highly experienced team,” said Roberto Pupo, leader of Holland & Knight’s Latin America Practice. “Their practice is very complementary to our existing cross-border capital markets and corporate finance practices. We also see opportunities for our new lawyers to collaborate with our New York-based capital markets practice, providing a full-service component that sets us apart from our competitors and should be very attractive to large Mexican companies.”
“Holland & Knight offers a unique platform that will allow my team to easily work across offices and pursue business opportunities in both the U.S. and in Latin America,” Mr. Mangino said. “The firm encourages collaboration and the partners I’ve met have been very welcoming and supportive. I’m confident that my team and clients will thrive as a result of our move, despite the challenges presented by the current Mexican economy.”
Ms. Ibarrola has worked with Mr. Mangino for almost 20 years. She regularly represents issuers and financial institutions in domestic and international, public and private, debt and equity offerings, and advises clients in the negotiation, structuring and drafting of commercial loans and other complex financings. Ms. Ibarrola also advises issuers and their boards of directors on reporting and other obligations under Mexican laws and corporate governance.
“Holland & Knight has an impressive reputation in Mexico,” said Ms. Ibarrola. “The growth of its offices and the quality of the representations were certainly factors in the decision to join. I look forward to establishing strong relationships with Holland & Knight attorneys and exploring ways to bring more value to our clients.”
Holland & Knight has more than 50 attorneys in its Mexico City and Monterrey offices.
