GrayRobinson Acquires Miami-Based Criminal and White Collar Defense Firm Hirschhorn & Bieber

GrayRobinson P.A. announces today its acquisition of the Miami-based criminal and civil white collar defense law firm Hirschhorn & Bieber. As a result of this partnership, GrayRobinson will now offer criminal and civil white collar defense legal services to existing and new clients, in addition to bolstering the ranks of lawyers with extensive trial experience. The merger comes on the heels of the firm opening its 11th statewide office earlier this year in Boca Raton – further expanding its presence in the growing South Florida market.

“GrayRobinson’s commitment to being Florida’s law firm means growing with Florida and evolving our business accordingly,” said GrayRobinson President Byrd F. “Biff” Marshall, Jr. “This partnership with Joel Hirschhorn and Brian Bieber expands our existing offerings to better serve clients and legal needs in a growing area of law. Their team has been the leading force in criminal and white collar defense cases not only in South Florida but also throughout the United States, and we are proud to welcome them as GrayRobinson attorneys.”

Hirschhorn & Bieber formed on January 1, 2000, and represents clients in criminal and civil white collar defense litigation. Hirschhorn began practicing law in 1967 and has been a pillar of the South Florida legal community for over 40 years. He is best known as a trial lawyer, having defended corporations and individuals in some of the highest profile actions against the government, including General Development Corporation (the longest trial in the history of the Southern District of Florida) and currently (in his ninth week of trial) representing the only principal to go to trial in the Mutual Benefits Corporation fraud matter. Hirschhorn’s notoriety dates back to the 1970’s when he was responsible for the Florida Supreme Court’s decision to reform the jury selection methods in the State.

“As the needs of our clients have grown during our 13 years as partners, and 21 overall, it made sense for us to join with a full-service law firm that could help us serve them in large scale civil and criminal matters, ” said Hirschhorn. “Considering the talented group of lawyers, its powerful statewide presence and the resources of a large firm, GrayRobinson is a natural choice for us,” said Bieber.

Bieber joined the Hirschhorn firm as a law clerk over 20 years ago, and they have been together ever since. Bieber focuses on representing individuals and corporations in complex civil and criminal defense litigation. He represents clients across the country in Federal and State courts at the trial and appellate levels. Bieber has represented high profile clients, obtained acquittals under facts and circumstances that appeared insurmountable, and is responsible for shutting down a South Florida Police Department’s unconstitutional practice of storing individuals’ DNA samples.

Jake Greenberg currently serves as an associate attorney at the firm. All three attorneys will transfer with the merger and operate as GrayRobinson attorneys effective today.

Joel Hirschhorn and Brian Bieber together focus on criminal and civil white collar defense litigation (both high profile and extremely confidential) for corporate executives, prominent clients, ordinary citizens, as well as small, mid-sized and major multi-million dollar businesses, in all Federal and State Courts at the trial and appellate levels. Their practice concentrates on the defense of banking, bankruptcy, computer, health care, insurance, mail, mortgage, pharmaceutical, real estate, tax, wire and other types of fraud. Additionally, they defend clients charged with violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), money laundering and “RICO” statutes, regulatory matters, Native American and Gaming laws. They also represent individuals and corporations involved in grand jury investigations. Hirschhorn and Bieber have successfully resolved clients’ matters in the IRS Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program and represented, by way of dismissals before trial, and acquittals by juries, numerous individuals charged with serious criminal activity who were facing lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
