International law firm McDermott Will & Emery today announced the appointment of Marcos Daniel Jiménez (“Marc”) as a partner in the Firm’s Trial Practice, based in Miami and New York.
Mr. Jiménez, who served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida from 2002 to 2005, joins McDermott from a prominent national litigation law firm. He focuses on complex business litigation, white-collar criminal defense and internal investigations.
Among his most recent and significant matters, Mr. Jiménez won an important trial victory in a deceptive trade practices action where the Florida Attorney General sought more than $20 million in damages plus statutory penalties from his client, Alltel Communications, a subsidiary of Verizon Wireless. For his Alltel win, Mr. Jiménez was featured inThe National Law Journal’s 2011 “Winning” issue and selected by The Daily Business Review as South Florida’s “Most Effective Lawyer” in the Complex Business/Civil Litigation category. He also recently obtained and successfully defended on appeal a final judgment awarding his client, CDR Créances, S.A.S., a French-government instrumentality, title to properties worth approximately $65 million, after the trial court struck the defendants’ pleadings for a pervasive fraud on the court.

As U.S. Attorney, Mr. Jiménez successfully led 230 federal prosecutors in one of the largest offices in the country, supervising significant public corruption, national security, health care, corporate and consumer fraud, narcotics trafficking, money laundering and other matters. During his tenure, he served on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, headed the nation’s largest Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, and chaired anti-terrorism task forces in the wake of the September 11 attack. Earlier in his career, Mr. Jiménez served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in South Florida, successfully first-chairing criminal trials and appeals in the busiest federal district in the US.
Mr. Jiménez is recognized as a leader in the field of General Commercial Litigation for the state of Florida in the 2012 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. He was also recently recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for 2012 as a leader in the categories of “Criminal Defense: White-Collar; Litigation – Real Estate” and “Litigation – Banking & Finance.”
A member of the Illinois, Florida and New York bars, Mr. Jiménez is admitted to practice in those states as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, the Southern District of Texas, and the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.
