On April 1, 2013, attorneys from Abadin Cook, a certified minority law firm, joined Sedgwick, establishing a Miami office for our firm. Abadin Cook’s attorneys are highly regarded trial attorneys and represent clients in complex personal injury and commercial litigation. Its founding partners, Ramón Abadin and Kimberly Cook, and three associates will join Sedgwick, establishing the firm’s 16th office worldwide and its second in South Florida. Sedgwick has an existing office in Ft. Lauderdale.
The attorneys from Abadin Cook provide legal services in the areas of commercial litigation, personal injury litigation, construction, real estate, international business, technology and telecommunication law, as well as general corporate law and issues related to corporate governance. Their client base includes companies from manufacturing, life sciences, technology, retail and healthcare industries.
In addition to partners Abadin and Cook, three associates joined Sedgwick: Erin Dardis, Suzette Russomanno and Viviana Varela.
Attorney Biographies
Ramón A. Abadin focuses his practice on complex commercial, insurance and corporate litigation matters as well as specialty tort defense litigation and premises liability. He is a member of the Florida Bar Board of Governors, where he is chair-elect of the Program Evaluation Committee; a member of Executive, Budget, and Strategic Planning Committees; and a liaison to the Judicial Nominating Procedures Committee. He is a past president of the Cuban American Bar Association and is a lifetime fellow of the Florida Bar Foundation. He currently is a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, which evaluates prospective nominees to the federal bench. Abadin earned his J.D. from Loyola University of New Orleans School of Law in 1985 and his B.A. in History from Tulane University in 1981.
Kimberly A. Cook specializes in professional liability defense, complex litigation and catastrophic injury defense cases. She serves as trial counsel for physicians, hospitals and other facilities in the defense of complex malpractice claims and has represented health care providers in claims brought by the Florida Department of Health Care Administration. A Florida Supreme Court certified circuit mediator, Cook is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University of New Orleans School of Law in 1984 and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature from Tulane University in 1980.
Erin E. Dardis represents clients in commercial and insurance litigation, medical malpractice defense, trial support, and appellate matters. She is a member of the Florida, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington bars. Dardis earned her J.D. (Dean’s List) in 1995 and her B.A., in History, in 1992 from Syracuse University.
Suzette L. Russomanno focuses her practice on commercial and tort litigation and medical malpractice matters. She has litigated a wide variety of negligence claims for numerous corporations and has handled medical malpractice actions for hospitals, doctors and other healthcare providers. She interned for the Hon. Jose E. Martinez, U.S. District Court judge for the Southern District of Florida, as well as for the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney. Russomanno earned her J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2004. She received her B.A. in History from the University of Miami in 2001.
Viviana P. Varela’s practice includes insurance litigation matters, defending self-insured big box retailers, and professional liability defense matters for hospitals, out-patient facilities and large physician groups. She is a member of the Cuban American Bar Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Charities Legal Services, Inc. Varela received her J.D., with honors, in 1995, and her B.A. in Anthropology, with honors, in 1992 from the University of Florida.
