Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is growing its employment law, litigation, and advice and counseling practices in South Florida by welcoming Patrick Martin as shareholder. Patrick will be based out of Ogletree Deakins’ Miami office, which offers a full range of labor and employment law services, including traditional labor relations, arbitration, and cross-border and international employment law matters. Patrick joins Ogletree Deakins from Greenberg Traurig where he was a shareholder, and previously practiced labor and employment law for 17 years at two Am Law 100 law firms. He also served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida based in Tallahassee.
Patrick represents employers of all sizes before state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies such as the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Florida Commission on Human Relations. He litigates cases involving wrongful termination, employment discrimination, workplace harassment, whistleblower issues, public accommodation, wage and hour matters, and employee disability and leave issues. Patrick regularly provides advice and counsel to clients on complex and routine personnel matters, balancing the needs of the business with the legal issues that arise in human resources decisions.
“While Patrick tenaciously represents his clients in the courts on a range of employment issues, he also is deft at pursuing amicable avenues to thwart litigation,” said Dave DeMaio, managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ Miami office. “Patrick and his experience is a welcome addition to our Miami office and the myriad of labor and employment law services we provide to employers throughout Florida. His values and approach to partnering with his clients align strongly with our Client Pledge.”
Patrick supports and has been heavily involved in diversity and inclusion initiatives throughout his career. He has served as a member of the African American business development group for an Am Law 100 law firm and on the diversity and inclusion council for another.
Patrick is repeatedly recognized for his legal acumen, having been named to The Best Lawyers in America since 2012. He is active in his community by serving as a member of the board of directors for the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida, the Ayiti Community Trust, the Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, as an executive council member for the Florida Bar’s Labor and Employment Section, and as a member of the Haitian Lawyers Association. Patrick is Vice-Chair of the Human Resources Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. He earned his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law, where he was the recipient of the Virgil Hawkins Scholarship.
