Seasoned transactional lawyer Jon Lyman—whose broad international practice spans public and private acquisitions and investments, private equity, securities offerings and trading, SEC regulation and other corporate matters—is the latest partner to join Pillsbury’s fast-growing global Corporate group. He comes to the firm from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and brings two decades of cross-border expertise with him, including more than 15 years practicing in Europe.
At Pillsbury, Lyman will initially be based in the New York office but intends to become resident in the Miami office once admitted in Florida. In light of his international client base and focus, he plans to also spend significant time in London.
“Jon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Pillsbury, having advised on a multitude of high-profile acquisitions and investments as well as successful debt and equity capital markets deals around the globe,” said practice section leader Jeffrey Delaney. “His arrival continues the rapid growth of our firm wide Corporate practice, particularly in the M&A and private equity areas, and adds meaningful new dimensions to our local client offerings in numerous jurisdictions.”
Lyman has wide-ranging experience advising corporate, investment banking and private equity clients on all manner of transactions, often involving cross-border elements. In addition to regularly advising mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, investment transactions and debt and equity offerings, he is frequently called upon by directors and officers to provide legal counsel in connection with finance matters and international debt and equity trading compliance. Lyman also has an extensive track record of success building practices, having previously helped to establish Willkie’s London and Houston offices.
With Lyman now on board, the firm has added six seasoned dealmakers to its Corporate practice since the start of 2019. Pillsbury added renowned Silicon Valley technology partner Shaalu Mehra from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Houston special counsel David Taylor from Holland & Knight LLP last month. In February, the firm brought on two up-and-coming private equity talents in partner Jarrod Murphy, from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, and special counsel Ted Powers, from Willkie, and it kicked off the year with the arrival of highly regarded London energy partner Gavin Watson from Dechert LLP in January.
“Pillsbury’s strong global platform, collaborative approach to client service and commitment to the highly vibrant Miami market present tremendous opportunities for me to further develop my practice,” noted Lyman. “The firm’s Corporate practice is clearly on the rise, and I very much look forward to helping continue—and accelerate—that already substantial momentum.”
From formation through financing, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, Pillsbury’s corporate lawyers advise companies on a global scale and at every stage in their life cycle.
