Lee Stapleton has joined the Miami office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP as a partner in the commercial disputes and white collar crime/criminal defense practices. A former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney in Florida, Stapleton is the third new partner and fifth lawyer to join K&L Gates’ growing Miami office since the beginning of May.
Stapleton is an experienced trial attorney and litigator with a focus on complex commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense. She represents individuals and corporations throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe. Stapleton is the immediate past President and Chair of the Orange Bowl Committee and is active in community affairs, including serving on the Board of Baptist Outpatient Services and Baptist Health Enterprises. She also teaches as an adjunct professor in the University of Miami School of Law’s Litigation Skills program, is an editor of the American Bar Association’s Litigation magazine, and has been recognized as one of the top 20 South Florida Women in Law by the Daily Business Review. For many years, Stapleton has been a weekly legal analyst on Miami ABC affiliate WPLG Channel 10 News.
Stapleton previously served as the Chief Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and was a Senior Litigation Counsel in the Economic Crimes Division. She also worked at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where she oversaw a program that coordinated federal and state law enforcement.
“I am delighted to join the litigation group in K&L Gates’ Miami office,” Stapleton commented. “It is a thriving practice group with talented attorneys. There is great bench strength in the office, and it continues to grow and flourish.”
“Lee Stapleton adds tremendous depth to our growing Miami office,” said Steven R. Weinstein, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Miami office. “Lee is a top trial attorney who, with her extensive commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense experience representing both U.S. and international clients, is a natural fit for K&L Gates’ multinational practice platform. We are thrilled for Lee to join us.”
Lawyers in K&L Gates’ Miami office represent domestic and foreign clients in connection with inbound and outbound international transactions, with a particular emphasis on commerce with Latin America, as well as advise on a variety of complex commercial litigation; labor and employment; cybersecurity; privacy/data protection; real estate; financial services; health care; restructuring and insolvency; and emerging growth and start-up matters, among others.
Stapleton’s arrival follows the May additions to the Miami office of investment management and corporate partner Arturo Requenez and health care partner Michael Levinson.
