Affordable Housing and Community Development Attorney Angela Christy Joins Ballard Spahr as Partner

Angela Christy—a real estate attorney with more than 30 years of experience handling affordable housing and community development matters for non-profit and for-profit developers, investors, and government entities—has joined Ballard Spahr’s Real Estate Department and Affordable Housing and Community Development Group as a Partner, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today. Ms. Christy is resident in the firm’s Minneapolis office. Christy joins from Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP.

Ms. Christy is known as a preeminent real estate attorney in Minnesota and throughout the upper Midwest. She is a Minnesota Certified Real Property Specialist, a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, and is ranked Band One for Real Estate – Minnesota by Chambers USA. She is also a past chair of the American Bar Association Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development and co-chairs the Minnesota Real Estate Institute Committee.

Ms. Christy’s practice centers on affordable housing, with particular emphasis on Low-Income Housing Tax Credit transactions and Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing projects. To date, she has handled more than 300 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit transactions throughout the country and has worked with more developers of tax-credit projects on Indian land than any attorney nationwide.

“Our Affordable Housing and Community Development Group is one of the strongest in the country, and Angela’s arrival expands our presence in the field,” Mr. Stewart said. “Her experience and track record are impressive. Without question, she’s a star addition to our Minneapolis bench and our national real estate practice.”

At Ballard Spahr, Ms. Christy’s Affordable Housing and Community Development work will be enhanced by collaboration with attorneys from the firm’s Housing Finance Group and wider Real Estate Department.

“Few firms have as illustrious an affordable housing practice as Ballard Spahr, and fewer still such a sterling national reputation in housing finance and real estate more broadly,” Ms. Christy said. “My practice will not only fit in well here, but thrive. I can’t wait to get started.”
