The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Samuel Walling has joined the Firm’s Financial Institutions Litigation & Regulation Practice as a partner in its Minneapolis Office.
Mr. Walling has represented Fortune 100 companies, multinational corporations, and start-ups in complex, high-stakes securities fraud, financial markets litigation, strategic intellectual property monetization, and intellectual property matters.
“Today’s global financial institutions, including banks, intermediaries, and financial technology companies, find themselves facing an increasingly more complex legal environment, including regulatory challenges, investigations, enforcement actions, and litigation. Our lawyers have the specific experience with these types of matters necessary to represent clients in the financial industry as they navigate through traditional and emerging areas of the law,” said Tony Dias, who co-leads Jones Day’s Financial Institutions Litigation & Regulation Practice. “Sam is that kind of lawyer. His experience ranging from high-stakes litigation arising out of the financial crisis to intellectual property issues, make him a valuable addition to what is already a very strong practice.”
Mr. Walling’s recent successful client matters include representing a federal home loan bank in a series of securities cases involving more than $2.8 billion in residential mortgage-backed securities, which included Section 11, Section 12, and common-law fraud claims. He has represented clients in federal, state, and appellate courts across the country.
“Sam is a highly skilled litigator with a deep understanding of the complex legal issues affecting banks and other financial institutions,” said Brian Easley, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Minneapolis Office. “He will be a great addition to our team in Minneapolis as we continue to expand our presence in the region.”
