International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP is pleased to announce that Jennifer Coates has joined the Firm as a Partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group in Minneapolis. Before joining Dorsey, Ms. Coates was a partner at Bowman Brooke and practiced in that firm’s Minneapolis office. 

Ms. Coates has extensive litigation and trial experience representing corporations and government entities in complex civil litigation matters. She has also defended corporations and government entities in commercial litigation, and she has significant trial and appellate experience. In addition, she has extensive regulatory expertise, advising clients on data privacy, enforcement actions, government investigations, and state licensing requirements.

From 2012-2015, she served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General, representing state and county agencies in civil and administrative matters, and providing oversight to all aspects of government investigations. Ms. Coates represented state regulatory agencies in state and federal courts and regularly advised her clients on data privacy, risk management and compliance, and regulatory matters. She began her career at Gray, Plant, Mooty (now Lathrop GPM) in Minneapolis, where she worked from 2008-2011. Ms. Coates received a B.A. from Amherst College, a M.A. from Brown University and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
