Fenwick & West today announced that David Johanson has joined the firm as a partner in its private equity practice. Johanson represents private equity sponsors in a broad range of growth capital, M&A, recapitalization, joint venture and other business transactions. He also represents technology companies that partner with private equity sponsors. David will be based in the firm’s Silicon Valley headquarters.
“We are thrilled that David is joining our technology-focused private equity practice,” said Richard Dickson, Chair of Fenwick & West. “Private equity firms increasing their activity in the tech industry, more than ever, are selecting Fenwick for our deep expertise in technology transactions. These deals are unique. Our long history navigating key areas, such as intellectual property and talent retention, for growing technology companies is a core strength we are leveraging for our private equity clients.”
“It’s wonderful to be joining Fenwick – a firm at the center of the tech industry,” said Johanson. “This is an unparalleled platform to provide private equity sponsors with insights into the tech sector and to execute their technology transactions efficiently and effectively.”
“David is a well-respected and established practitioner in tech PE,” said Scott Joachim, private equity chair at Fenwick & West. “As important as his technical expertise and pragmatic deal-making skills, it’s his collaborative approach that makes him a perfect fit with Fenwick’s culture.”
Prior to joining Fenwick, Johanson was a partner at a large national law firm where he focused his practice on private equity transactions for more than 10 years. He earned a B.A. in political science from Northwestern University, where he also attended law school, earning a J.D. cum laude, order of the coif.
“We are grateful for the increasing demand for our services at the convergence of private equity and technology,” continued Joachim. “We are excited to invest in our strong momentum so that we may continue to offer best-in-class service to our private equity and financial services clients that are hyper-focused on innovation through technology investing.”
