Leading M&A and Private Equity Partner Will Join Latham & Watkins in Germany

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Rainer Traugott will join the firm as a partner in the Corporate Department of the Munich office. Widely regarded as a leading M&A lawyer, Traugott’s practice focuses on the representation of large German corporates and private equity firms on M&A transactions and a broad range of corporate law matters.

Traugott will bring more than 20 years of experience advising high profile strategic and private equity clients in M&A transactions. He has also built a strong reputation in company representation work, including advice to the management and supervisory board and corporate governance matters.

“We are delighted that Rainer will join the firm,” said Thomas Fox, Latham & Watkins’ Munich Office Managing Partner. “His addition to the team is a powerful testament to the strength of our M&A and private equity capabilities in Germany and Europe. He is a highly experienced M&A specialist whose reputation as a commercially astute lawyer is founded on his deep market knowledge.”

Henning Schneider, Co-chair of the Corporate Department in Germany, added: “Rainer’s mix of experience is complementary to our practice in Europe. He is a consummate dealmaker who has a deep understanding of the interconnecting business and legal issues. He will join a strong team of talented M&A lawyers in Germany and Europe and he will play a significant role supporting the growth of our practice.”

Dan Lennon, Global Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Corporate Department, said: “Our clients face an increasingly complex and global market. Rainer’s extensive cross-border transactional experience meshes nicely with our global platform and the needs of our clients. His arrival supports our goal to become the market-leading firm in Germany and globally for high-end corporate and private equity transactions.”

Traugott is the latest in a series of high profile lateral partners to join the firm’s Corporate Department. His arrival follows Oliver Felsenstein and Burc Hesse who joined Latham in Germany last year. Felsenstein and Hesse are experienced M&A partners who regularly advise on domestic and cross-border transactions, with a particular focus on private equity deals.

Traugott will join Latham & Watkins from Linklaters. He received his legal training in Erlangen, Munich, Aix-en-Provence and Luxembourg, ultimately earning his doctorate from Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich in 1997 and an LLM from Columbia University, New York, in 1995.
