Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Edward C. Marschner has joined the firm as a shareholder in New York. He is a member of the firm’s Corporate, Securities, and Tax practice group.
As a corporate lawyer, Marschner represents closely-held multinational groups in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, public contract teaming, and sophisticated transnational partnership relationships. He advises industrial groups on competition and antitrust law, and on protecting intellectual property. Mobilizing IP specialists, Marschner aids creative clients that wish to develop a new product, service or idea, often in another country. Marschner has a passion for art law, representing architects, artists, journalists, foundations, and international art collections.
Marschner joins Carlton Fields from the firm of Fox Horan & Camerini LLP. He said, “I am delighted to join Carlton Fields. The firm impresses me with its commitment to exemplary client service and ethical standards. I am looking forward to offering my clients the range of resources that Carlton Fields provides.”
Carlton Fields’ New York Office Managing Shareholder Brian Rosner added, “Ed is a great fit to our New York office, corporate group, and firm at large. He is an impressive attorney, with an international focus that will nicely complement our existing U.S. and international deal experience.”
Prior to attending law school, Marschner served as a teaching assistant in France. This experience gave him an urge to understand and develop solutions to problems that arise across cultural distances. Marschner’s legal career commenced with a multinational law firm, where he lived and worked largely in Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. His more than 30 years at Fox Horan & Camerini LLP deepened his appreciation of the nuances of business carried on between Europe and North and South America.
Marschner is a member of the New York City and State Bar Associations, the American Bar Association, and the Union Internationale des Avocats. A past leader of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (NYSBA’s International Law and Practice Section), he regularly speaks to professional and client groups on topics such as comparisons of American and French corporate laws, international distributorship and agency relationships, and legal issues arising in connection with the arts.
Marschner is a past member of the French conseil juridique profession. He works regularly in the French language.
He received his J.D. from Yale Law School, and his B.A., cum laude, with high departmental honors from Yale College.
