Jenner & Block LLP announced that Joseph L. Noga has joined the firm as a partner in the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice in its New York office. Mr. Noga was most recently the deputy chief of litigation for GE Capital, the financial services unit of General Electric (GE), a role he assumed after heading litigation and investigations for several GE business units.
“With extensive experience at a Fortune 50 company, Joe brings a valued in-house perspective that will benefit our clients,” said Susan C. The discipline and rigor that Joe practiced at GE will help us satisfy our client’s business objectives in managing the litigation process. We are excited to welcome him to the firm.”
At GE Capital, Mr. Noga managed teams directly handling hundreds of litigation and investigative matters around the world and held ultimate responsibility for thousands of matters. Several Jenner & Block attorneys have worked closely with Mr. Noga on various GE matters over the years. “He is an extremely smart and capable lawyer with a great deal of business savvy,” said Barbara S. Steiner, co-chair of the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice.
Mr. Noga will play an important role in building on the momentum that the firm’s New York office has established in its litigation and investigations practice. Last month, the firm announced the arrival of Neil M. Barofsky, a former federal prosecutor and first chief watchdog of the historic $700 billion federal bailout adopted in response to the 2008 financial crisis. Leading white collar defense practitioners in New York include Peter B. Pope, former head of the New York State Attorney General’s Criminal Division; Katya Jestin, former assistant United States attorney in Brooklyn; and Anthony S. Barkow, former assistant United States attorney in Manhattan and Washington, D.C. Established in 2005, the New York office has grown its ranks to more than 50 attorneys across litigation and transactional disciplines.

Mr. Noga earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Stone Scholar and Olin Junior Fellow, and his B.A. in Economics from Amherst College. He worked in private practice in New York before joining GE in 2001.
