Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce that Richard P. O’Leary has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the business litigation practice.
O’Leary, who was a partner at McCarter & English LLP, practices in the areas of commercial litigation and product liability. During his more than 30 years of practice, he has tried a broad range of product liability cases and has significant experience in the area of asbestos litigation. O’Leary has also represented manufacturers in the life sciences industry in high profile product liability litigation. He has served as local counsel, as well as national counsel in multi-district litigation. O’Leary has tried more than 50 cases to verdict in federal and state courts in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and has also litigated matters in Florida. He litigated Malcolm v. National Gypsum Co., a Second Circuit case which set the standard for consolidating cases for trial in state and federal courts in New York.

His background handling all phases of complex litigation, including multiparty and multijurisdictional cases, will be of significant value to clients.”
O’Leary has also tried cases involving contract claims, bankruptcy, construction claims and telecommunications issues. In addition, he has substantial experience defending corporations against allegations of fraud and negligent misrepresentation. He has counseled many clients on risks and litigation issues affecting their businesses, including in the context of M&A transactions.

O’Leary earned a J.D., cum laude, and an A.B., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. He is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Pennsylvania.
