Pryor Cashman LLP is pleased to announce the addition of M. Ali Panjwani to its Corporate and China Practice Groups as a partner. Panjwani comes to Pryor Cashman from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP where he was a key member of that firm’s Corporate & Securities practice.
Panjwani’s practice involves advising investment banks, investment funds, publicly-listed issuers and start-up companies in a wide variety of corporate and securities matters, including underwritten offerings, registered direct transactions, venture financing, reverse mergers and private placement transactions.
“Having worked across the table from Ali on several deals, it is easy to understand how he earned a reputation as a tactical thinker who can guide clients smoothly through even the most complex transactions,” said Eric Hellige, partner and chair of the Corporate and Securities Group at Pryor Cashman. “The addition of Ali to the Group will no doubt enhance the strong relationships we already have with middle-market companies. Additionally, his notable experience in China’s capital markets is a tremendous asset for those U.S. companies looking to invest in China, and China-based companies looking to invest in the United States.”
Panjwani has worked on over 100 private placement transactions on behalf of issuers, placement agents and investors. These transactions have involved the issuance of many different types of securities, including common stock, preferred stock, warrants and convertible notes. He also counsels public companies with respect to periodic reporting obligations as well as on corporate governance issues, and counsels investment funds in connection with various transactional work. In the China capital markets area, Panjwani focuses his representation on underwriters, placement agents, investors and issuers.
Panjwani’s arrival comes on the heels of the addition of partner Bertrand C. Fry to the firm’s Investment Management Group in February. The new additions are representative of Pryor Cashman’s ongoing strategic lateral hiring campaign for its financial services practices.

Panjwani is a sought-after speaker and author, and has published articles on the JOBS Act and Crowdfunding, among other topics. He is a 2001 graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was a member of the Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law and a recipient of the Heyman Fellowship in Corporate Governance. Panjwani earned his undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, where he was inducted into the Stern School Hall of Fame. He is fluent in Urdu.
