Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Jennifer B. Coplan has joined the firm in its New York office as a partner in its global Technology Transactions practice. Ms. Coplan’s extensive experience includes advising clients on complex global and domestic technology transactions, including joint ventures and M&A, as well as on a diverse range of intellectual property matters. She has a deep knowledge of the cutting-edge issues at the intersection of technology and the entertainment industries, and regularly counsels clients on matters including content distribution, digital rights management, content protection, cloud computing, and IP development and licensing. Her clients include leading consumer electronics, technology and motion picture companies as well as companies in the financial services and social media industries.

“Adding Jennifer to our team is a natural next step in the expansion of our global Technology Transactions practice and is a wonderful complement to our growing M&A and corporate practices in New York,” said Michael J. Schmidtberger, managing partner of Sidley’s New York office. “New York plays an important role in our continued growth in this area. There are untapped opportunities for a transactions partner with Jennifer’s valuable skill set and we are excited to welcome her to the firm.”

“Jennifer has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in the world of technology transactions, especially in the areas of digital media and copyright policy, and she has developed an impressive international client base,” said Jeffrey S. Rothstein, global co-chair of Sidley’s Technology Transactions practice. “She bolsters our already strong ability to advise clients on the most complex and novel digital content issues facing companies today.”

“I believe Sidley’s breadth, stellar international platform and collaborative culture makes the firm an ideal fit for me,” said Ms. Coplan. “I look forward to working closely with my new colleagues to serve our clients and build the firm’s technology practice further.”

Ms. Coplan was named one of The Best Lawyers In America from 2008 – 2013. She was appointed in November 2004 as an Advisor to the American Law Institute’s five-year “Principles of the Law of Software Contracts.”

Ms. Coplan was a partner at Cooley LLP prior to joining Sidley. Her arrival follows that of Silicon Valley-based IP and technology transactions partner Glenn Nash, who joined in August 2012.

“Jennifer’s skills and experience in the technology and digital media industries are a wonderful addition to the compelling suite of services we provide to technology companies around the world, and we are very happy to welcome Jennifer to our global technology team,” said Mr. Nash, global co-chair of Sidley’s Technology Transactions practice.
