Akin Gump Adds New York Private Equity Partner Patrick F. Rice

Akin Gump announced today that Patrick F. Rice has joined the firm’s corporate practice. Mr. Rice will be resident in Akin Gump’s New York office, where he will further strengthen and enhance the scale and scope of the firm’s private equity transactional capabilities.

Mr. Rice, with more than 20 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, focuses on working with private equity and other funds clients on mega-cap and middle market transactions. Over the course of his career, he has been deal counsel to alternative asset managers, portfolio companies and strategic acquirers and has developed extensive knowledge of, and experience in, the energy, infrastructure, transportation and shipping industries.

“Our corporate practice is well known for leading complex private equity transactions and driving creative solutions, and Patrick is a strong addition to the group,” said Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “With his diverse background in both the legal and investment management industries, he will be a key resource for us and our clients, and we are very happy to welcome him to Akin Gump.”

“Patrick’s extensive experience working with private equity sponsors and the companies in which they invest fits squarely into our strategy, which is to provide superior service to our core client base of funds and funds-related companies,” said Kerry E. Berchem, head of Akin Gump’s corporate practice. “His industry knowledge complements many other strengths of our firm’s capabilities, as well, and I am thrilled he has chosen to join us.”

Mr. Rice was previously a partner at Reed Smith and, prior to that, worked at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he held a variety of positions, including general counsel of the Goldman Sachs Infrastructure Investment Fund.

“Having devoted much of my practice throughout my career to the representation of private equity and hedge funds, the synergy with Akin Gump is very clear,” said Mr. Rice. “The firm is extremely well established in the alternative investment industry, and coming here is an opportunity not to be missed. I am very excited to be part of the Akin Gump team.”

Mr. Rice received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, an M.B.A. from George Mason University and his B.S. from the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
