Allen & Overy today announced that Adam Sofen has joined the firm from Sullivan & Cromwell LLP as a partner based out of A&O’s New York offices. Sofen’s practice focuses on the commercial real estate market, and lends itself to capturing the real estate related financing and equity work that is a natural extension of A&O’s existing engagements. He will integrate into Allen & Overy’s transactional practices, including Corporate M&A, Private Equity, and Restructuring, among others.
“Allen & Overy’s client base includes the world’s largest financial institutions, many of whom are U.S. or foreign banks, or related non-bank financial institutions, all of which expect from Allen & Overy a full service legal offering to support their most important activities including development, acquisition and sale, finance, leasing, licensing, workout and restructuring work,” said Tim House, U.S. senior partner at Allen & Overy. “Adam’s decade of experience practicing commercial real estate law at a leading New York law firm will be a natural addition to Allen & Overy’s wider finance and transactional practices, allowing us to meet this broader set of client needs and further expand A&O’s existing business.”
Sofen has worked in Sullivan & Cromwell’s Commercial Real Estate Group since 2008, advising on a broad range of matters for clients in the real estate sector, including acquisitions and dispositions, mortgage and mezzanine financing, joint ventures, sale-leaseback arrangements, development and property management agreements, and loan restructurings. He received his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School and his Bachelor’s Degree from Harvard. Following law school, Adam spent one year each as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Kimba Wood of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and for the Honorable Wilfred Feinberg of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
“I have watched Allen & Overy’s U.S. transactional practices take increasing market share over the past several years, and I am excited to both be a part of that growth and take this next step in my career,” said Sofen.
