Alston & Bird has continued to bolster its Investment Funds Group with the addition of veteran registered funds partner George Silfen in the firm’s New York office. Silfen arrives at the firm from Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP.
George’s addition follows those of investment funds partners Heather Wyckoff and Sam Roh, who also joined Alston & Bird’s corporate practices in the last year.
“As the market for investment fund products expands into offering retail alternative investment funds, adding George to our team will further expand our registered funds offerings as the industry moves toward democratizing alternative investment products,” said Tim Selby, Alston & Bird partner and head of the investment funds practice. “A seasoned and well-respected lawyer, George brings deep experience in advising clients on ’40 Act funds, which will bring tremendous value to our team.”
For more than 25 years, George has advised registered investment companies, boards of directors, investment advisers, and broker-dealers on organizing and operating mutual funds, closed-end investment companies, business development companies, registered hedge funds, wrap accounts, and 401(k) and IRA products. George has extensive knowledge in alternative investments and significant expertise in the Investment Company Act of 1940, which regulates investment companies, including public alternative funds.
“Alston & Bird has earned recognition from me and so many others in the investment funds space because the firm offers such a vibrant platform that includes a collaborative and esteemed investment funds practice,” George stated. “I am thrilled to join my talented new colleagues in helping clients navigate cutting-edge investment opportunities in a dynamic and ever-changing landscape.”
Alston & Bird’s Investment Funds Group serves a broad array of sophisticated clients across the asset management and financial services industries. The team guides private investment funds, registered investment companies, and broker-dealers, as well as clients structuring, distributing, trading, investing in, and hedging with derivatives and structured products.
