Ashurst strengthens US tax practice with two partner appointments

International law firm Ashurst announces the appointment of Jeffrey H. Koppele and Sharon Kim as partners in its US tax practice.

Jeffrey brings to Ashurst nearly 20 years’ experience as a leading tax partner, most recently at Dentons, where he has been a partner since 2010. Having commenced his career at Weil Gotshal & Manges, Jeffrey then practiced at Latham & Watkins and Thacher Proffitt & Wood before joining Dentons. He has extensive expertise in a number of products and areas, advising on both tax and derivatives matters on a wide variety of transactions. As part of his tax practice, Jeff advises financial institutions, investment funds, corporates and others on domestic and cross-border transactions relating primarily to financial products and derivatives, capital markets and financing transactions, investment funds and M&A. In relation to derivatives, Jeffrey specialises in advising swap dealers, hedge funds and other market participants on regulatory and transactional matters. Jeffrey has been recognized by The Legal 500 in 2016 and 2017 for outstanding work in financial products tax.

The firm has also promoted Sharon Kim to partner in the US tax practice. Sharon has been with Ashurst since 2009, having previously worked at McKee Nelson. She covers US tax matters for the firm and advises leading international financial institutions and investment funds on U.S. federal income tax aspects in relation to structured and derivative products, capital markets transactions, including debt and equity offerings, credit facilities and private equity and debt funds. She also advises issuers, lenders, borrowers and investors on general U.S. tax matters, including U.S. withholding taxes, FATCA and FIRPTA.
