Baker Botts Boosts White Collar Practice With Addition of Former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology and energy law firm, is pleased to announce that Brendan Quigley, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm’s White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations practice as a partner in New York.

“We are thrilled to have Brendan join Baker Botts. His addition to our firm bolsters our current white collar and securities investigations offerings and adds significant capabilities for clients both in New York and throughout the United States,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts.

An Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York for almost seven years, Mr. Quigley was a senior member of the Office’s Securities and Commodities Fraud Unit. Most recently, he participated in a multi-defendant racketeering prosecution, arising out of the world’s largest private equity insolvency, and also obtained the conviction of a New York media personality on securities and wire fraud charges following a high-profile trial. In all, Mr. Quigley tried 12 cases to verdict and briefed or argued 11 appeals in the Second Circuit. He graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center and earned his B.S. from Cornell University. Prior to law school, he served in the United States Marine Corps as an artillery officer, completing two tours of duty in Iraq, ultimately earning the rank of Captain.

“Brendan is an accomplished prosecutor with an outstanding track record in the securities and commodities fraud arena,” said Alex Bourelly, Chair of Baker Botts’ White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations practice. “His addition adds further depth to the invaluable government experience that our lawyers bring to the table for our clients.”

Mr. Quigley’s addition represents another recent hire of a former federal government official by Baker Botts. Within the past year, the firm has added former Federal Trade Commission Chair and Commissioner, Maureen Ohlhausen; former Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Environment & Natural Resources Division, Jeffrey H. Wood; former Assistant Chief of the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, San Francisco, Peter Huston; and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation, Regulation and Enforcement at the U.S. Department of Energy, George Fibbe.

“Making the move to Baker Botts was truly an easy one, as the firm has a top-notch reputation globally, and its White Collar practice is known for handling many of clients’ most complex cases,” said Mr. Quigley.

Drawing on decades of private sector, law enforcement and in-house experience, Baker Botts’ award-winning White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice represents clients in their most sensitive matters, with a heritage of defending headliner investigations, enforcement actions and criminal trials – from the Watergate scandal to the Mueller investigation. Comprised of lawyers who have served in the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the New York District Attorney’s Office, our team understands firsthand how regulators and prosecutors will handle investigations and enforcement actions.
