BakerHostetler Continues to Strengthen Intellectual Property Practice with Addition of Patent and IP Prosecutor

BakerHostetler today announced the addition of Partner Pierre R. Yanney to the firm’s Intellectual Property Group and patent litigation team, resident in the New York office. Yanney comes to BakerHostetler from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.

Yanney brings more than 20 years of experience in both patent litigation and prosecution to the firm’s nationwide practice. He combines his experience as a seasoned litigator and an electrical engineer to protect the value of his clients’ intellectual property in federal and district courts throughout the United States and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Yanney advises companies in an array of high-tech industries, including electronic systems and controls, telecommunications, RFID components and systems, and electronic medical devices and instruments.

“We pride ourselves on attracting team members with a combination of intellectual strength, legal prowess and technical talent – and Pierre epitomizes that,” said Mark Tidman, Chair of BakerHostetler’s Intellectual Property Group. “He has an appreciation for technology that recalls his roots as an engineer, and his 25 years in patent litigation and prosecution enable him to distill complex details in the courtroom. His track record speaks for itself.”

“Pierre’s experience with portfolio expansion and enforcement makes him another key player on an already all-star team,” said George Stamboulidis, Managing Partner of the New York office. “Our clients will benefit from his deep technical training, along with his ability to both litigate and prosecute matters related to their intellectual property.”

“Protecting a company’s IP portfolio requires a deep bench of attorneys who have the technological insight to create a customized approach,” said Yanney. “BakerHostetler’s Intellectual Property practice is the robust platform my growing clients need, and I’m excited they’ll be able to tap into these resources.”

Yanney earned his B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1988, and he received his J.D. with honors from Rutgers University in 1993, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. Prior to completing law school, he specialized in circuit design for communication systems at AT&T Bell Laboratories.

BakerHostetler has significantly bolstered its Intellectual Property Group this year with the addition of 21 attorneys nationwide who are highly specialized in a multitude of scientific fields. They join a team of more than 170 IP attorneys and more than 100 lawyers and patent agents registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. More than 50 of BakerHostetler’s IP attorneys hold advanced degrees across a spectrum of disciplines.
