Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney announces the addition of intellectual property attorney, Lawrence T. Kass as shareholder in the firm’s New York office. Kass joins Buchanan after nearly 17 years at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.
“As we continue to expand our nationwide IP practice, our goal has been to attract top-notch talent like Larry,” noted Philip L. Hirschhorn, co-chair of the Buchanan’s IP litigation practice group and office head for the firm’s New York City office. “With his extensive patent litigation, patent office litigation and complex transactional experience, Larry will be a tremendous addition to the firm.”
Kass focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property, including patent and trade secret litigation in the district courts and at the International Trade Commission, corporate finance and technology transactions, client counseling and patent prosecution. In his capacity as a litigator and a transactional attorney, Kass has provided counsel and guidance to clients in a number of industries and technologies, such as chemical, biopharma, energy, semiconductor and flat panel manufacturing and software. He is a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Association and chairs several committees and is an active member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) and the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
Before becoming an attorney, Kass worked as a research scientist and development engineer developing processes for efficient refining, cleaner fuels and lower automobile emissions and other innovations, several of which have received patents. He has undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering and chemistry and received his J.D. from Pace University School of Law.
