Deal Finance Lawyer Kevin Whittam Joins Baker McKenzie in New York

Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie announced today that Kevin Whittam, a skilled leveraged finance and specialty lending lawyer, has joined the Firm’s Transactional Practice in New York. He brings extensive deal experience and has been involved in numerous multimillion and multibillion dollar transactions over the past several years. Kevin joined Baker McKenzie from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where he served as Counsel.

Kevin advises financial institutions, corporate borrowers and private equity funds in connection with complex domestic and global bank finance transactions, including acquisition financing, leveraged buyouts, debtor-in-possession financings, first and second lien financings, asset-based loans, re-financings, subscription financings, and secured and unsecured debt structures. His practice complements Baker McKenzie’s breadth of knowledge to handle multifaceted leveraged finance and high-yield transactions across both emerging and developed markets.

Kevin follows the recent hires of fintech partners Usman Sheikh and Michael Garellek in Toronto and fund formation lawyer Shusmita Chowdhury in New York. He is also the latest addition to Baker McKenzie’s Global Banking & Finance Team, joining new partners Anthony Kay in London and Holly Hart and Brendan Smith in Sydney.

Kevin earned his B.S. in computer science and B.E. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario. Prior to law school, he worked as a business process development consultant with IBM Canada Ltd. Kevin earned his J.D. from the University of Windsor.
