Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, announces today that Tomasita Sherer has joined the Firm’s Commercial Litigation practice as partner. Adding to the steady growth of the Firm’s New York office, Sherer focuses on helping global companies resolve their business disputes through litigation, arbitration, mediation or other cost-effective methods. Prior to joining Dentons, Sherer served as of counsel in private practice where her focus was on representing insurers and pharmaceutical companies in product liability and class action cases at DLA Piper.
Sherer’s practice spans multiple business sectors, including financial services, insurance, technology, entertainment and energy; publicly traded and privately held companies; and officers and directors. With her more than 20 years of experience, she helps her clients achieve their strategic goals with a business-minded and collaborative approach. Sherer prides herself on developing innovative solutions to complex problems and energizing cross-cultural teams.
“We are pleased to continue the growth of our team with the addition of Tomasita,” said Sandra Hauser, head of the Dentons US Commercial Litigation practice. “Our clients will benefit from her mix of insurance and commercial litigation experience, as well as her existing relationships and connections in the insurance and financial services sectors.”
Previously, she worked for more than a decade in-house at MetLife as senior counsel, where she briefed and argued motions and appeals in various federal district and circuit courts of appeal, including the Southern District of New York. While there, she also was founding co-chair of the company’s Legal Affairs Pro Bono Program, creating several notable multi-year pro bono offerings, including a program that provided wills and other basis estate planning documents to New York firefighters. Over the course of her career, Sherer has handled a number of employment matters and has accrued extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution.
Sherer is a leader in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. She is a past vice president of the Puerto Rican Bar Association and currently sits on the board of directors of the New York Women’s Foundation. Some of the organizations that Sherer has represented pro bono include the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education, the City Bar Justice Center Immigrant Justice Project and the New York Legal Assistance Group, among others.
