Eversheds Sutherland is delighted to announce the addition of Emanuel Tsourounis II as a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group. Based in New York, Mr. Tsourounis will enhance the firm’s services that advise institutional lenders on real estate debt financing and broader commercial real estate transactions. Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Tsourounis was a New York-based partner in the real estate practice group of Cole Schotz P.C.
Mr. Tsourounis’ addition strengthens the firm’s nationally recognized practice in the origination, workout and servicing of commercial mortgage and mezzanine loans. In this realm, the firm’s US real estate team has been a decades-long trusted partner for loan originators and loan servicers, including in the context of securitized transactions.
“We are thrilled to welcome Emanuel, whose successful track record with large institutional lenders, investors and other market participants will benefit our clients in connection with their sophisticated commercial real estate transactions,” said Mark D. Wasserman, Co-CEO of Eversheds Sutherland. “Emanuel has been at the forefront of real estate finance innovation for more than two decades, and he will bring his strong commercial sense and legal understanding to our matters for providers and servicers of real estate capital.”
“Emanuel is a highly respected real estate finance, investment and development lawyer whose prolific practice in these areas is a strategic fit for our team, including his experience as origination counsel for large lenders,” said Partner Kristina Kopf Thomas, US Real Estate Practice Group Leader and Co-Head of Global Real Estate and Planning. “His deep connections to New York-focused commercial real estate markets will greatly contribute to our nationally recognized practice in real estate finance, capital markets and securitizations.”
Mr. Tsourounis’ practice spans a wide range of commercial real estate matters, including advising on the origination, servicing, and restructuring of mortgage and mezzanine loans, revolving credit facilities, preferred equity investments, and related secondary market transactions. His lending experience encompasses permanent, bridge, and construction loans, as well as loans that are intended for securitization or to be held in portfolio.
Mr. Tsourounis also regularly handles the structuring and negotiation of joint ventures, the acquisition and disposition of real estate assets and related equity interests, and “borrower-side” financings. The transactions he has handled involve diverse commercial property types – from multifamily residential, office, retail, and hospitality to industrial, self-storage, mixed-use, and condominium developments.
His clients include domestic and foreign banks, insurance companies, real estate investment funds, asset managers, real estate investment trusts, Fortune 500 companies, developers, and other institutional clients and secondary market participants, as well as high net worth individuals and family offices.
“I am excited to continue to build my practice at Eversheds Sutherland, which has a longstanding reputation for excellence in commercial real estate markets, including in the focused areas of originations for portfolio and securitized lending,” Mr. Tsourounis said. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with my new colleagues as we counsel clients on both the opportunities and challenges facing the commercial real estate community, including evolutions in how the built environment is being developed and used.”
Mr. Tsourounis is the latest attorney to join the US Real Estate team, following the arrival in the past year of Counsel George Bernhardt in Houston and several associates across other offices.
Within the broader industry, Mr. Tsourounis has been active in presenting and writing about timely topics in commercial real estate lending, development and investment.
