Arnold & Porter announced today that Michael Kim Krouse, former Assistant US Attorney in the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), has joined the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice as a partner, resident in New York.

Mr. Krouse brings nearly a decade of experience investigating and prosecuting high stakes matters on behalf of the United States government. As an Assistant US Attorney, Mr. Krouse was lead or co-lead counsel on nine federal jury trials and briefed or argued 11 appeals before the Second Circuit. Mr. Krouse has led matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, financial fraud, public corruption, health care fraud, terrorism, sanctions evasion, murder-for-hire, money laundering, and export control issues. He has also handled investigations and prosecutions involving a wide range of government agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Department of State, Department of Defense, Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, Office of Foreign Assets Control, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Health and Human Services, and Securities & Exchange Commission.

Prior to his post at the US Attorney’s Office for the SDNY, Mr. Krouse was in private practice and served as a Judge Advocate in the US Marine Corps for four years, where he investigated dozens of cases and conducted 13 court-martial trials. Mr. Krouse also served in the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of Military Commissions, where he handled pretrial motions and appeals in a range of cases. Mr. Krouse attained the rank of Major and received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
Mr. Krouse earned his JD from Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Supreme Court clinic and received the Harlan Fiske Stone Prize (best oralist) and Potter Stewart Prize (best team) in Moot Court. He also received the William K.S. Wang Prize for top performance in corporate law. He earned his BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Before law school, Mr. Krouse worked for McKinsey & Company, the United Nations Development Program, and a non-governmental organization based in Afghanistan.
Mr. Krouse clerked for Judge Paul Engelmayer of the US District Court, Southern District of New York, and Judge José Cabranes of the US Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.
Mr. Krouse joins a number of Arnold & Porter colleagues who are SDNY alumni, including Marcus Asner, Manvin Mayell, Nancy Milburn, Michael Rogoff, Sara Shudofsky, and Craig Stewart in New York; and William Hoffman and Baruch Weiss in Washington, DC. His arrival follows the recent addition of Valarie Hays, a former federal prosecutor who joined the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice as a partner in Chicago.
