Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Matthew L. Biben has joined the firm as a partner in the New York office. Biben, formerly a co-lead of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP’s Banking Industry Group, will serve as Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn’s Financial Institutions Practice Group and continue his financial institutions practice with a focus on complex regulatory and litigation matters.
“We are excited to welcome Matt to Gibson Dunn,” said Ken Doran, Chairman and Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn. “Matt’s unique combination of expertise and experience, both as a former prosecutor and as in-house counsel in the financial industry, will prove invaluable to our clients. Matt is well-known and respected in the financial sector – among financial institutions and among its regulators. He will be a strong addition to our financial institutions, and premier white collar and litigation practices in New York, Washington, D.C. and globally.”
“Matt will be an excellent addition to the New York office,” said Mark Kirsch, Co-Partner-in-Charge of the New York office. “He is well known to our partners, and he is highly regarded in the New York business community. Matt has unrivaled banking industry experience, and his practice spans white collar and regulatory investigations and advocacy, as well as financial and complex commercial litigation. With this impressive background, he will deepen and broaden our existing strengths in New York and firmwide.”
“I’m thrilled to join the Gibson Dunn team,” Biben said. “I’ve long admired the firm’s world-class talent and strong cultural values. The firm has exceptional capabilities across all practice areas and a tremendous global platform – I look forward to contributing to the firm’s growing bank regulatory, enforcement and litigation capabilities.”
Biben augments the firm’s already deep bench of more than 50 former U.S. Department of Justice leaders and Assistant U.S. Attorneys, including New York partners Zainab Ahmad, Reed Brodsky, Joel Cohen, Mylan Denerstein, Lee Dunst, Mark Kirsch, Richard Mark, Randy Mastro, Orin Snyder, Alexander Southwell, Avi Weitzman and Lawrence Zweifach.
