Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that Annmarie Giblin has joined the New York office as a partner in the global Insurance Services Practice Group. With an extensive background in cybersecurity and data privacy law and litigation matters, Giblin will help lead the firm’s data security and privacy practice and is spearheading the launch of the firm’s Proactive Cyber Defense practice. Formerly a senior counsel with Chubb, Giblin most recently was the founding attorney of Giblin Law PLLC.
The new Proactive Cyber Defense practice will focus on preparing clients for the legal issues and aftermath of cyber incidents. It will also help clients identify their unique cyber risks, address compliance with related cyber and privacy laws, and manage each client’s unique data privacy and security issues.
“The days of ignoring cyber risk and the legal issues that stem from it are over,” Giblin explained. “Identifying and addressing the legal issues surrounding a business’ individual cyber and privacy risks before an incident occurs is not only prudent but is quickly becoming the standard of care with regards to an organization’s data.”
“A recognized thought leader in cybersecurity and data privacy matters, Annmarie has significant experience assisting companies in proactive compliance with cyber and data security matters and managing emerging cyber risks, as well as incident response,” said Scott Seaman, co-head of the firm’s global Insurance Services Practice Group. “Her practice complements our existing deep bench of insurance services attorneys. We’re thrilled that she has joined our team.”
Giblin’s practice focuses on all aspects of cybersecurity and data privacy compliance, risk mitigation, and incident response. She also advises companies on physical cyber risks, third-party vendor cyber risks, and emerging technology. Giblin decided to make the move to Hinshaw because of the firm’s powerful national reputation in the insurance sector and deep bench in complementary practice areas, including white-collar, litigation, and financial services.
“Hinshaw has a sterling reputation for responding to client needs quickly and effectively,” Giblin said. “I’m excited to join a firm that offers me incredible potential to grow my practice while also providing a broad range of legal services to my existing clients.”
Giblin was a litigation attorney for 11 years at several law firms before moving in-house to Chubb as senior counsel. She received her B.A. from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in Jamaica, NY. While studying for her undergraduate degree, Giblin was a legislative intern for New York State Assembly member Sam Hoyt. While attending law school at night, she worked as a legal assistant for the Assistant Attorney General, Litigation Bureau, in the New York State Attorney General’s office and as a paralegal in the Queens District Attorney’s Office. Giblin was also an intern for the Honorable Joanna Seybert, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York.
