Mayer Brown Expands Service Offerings to Japanese Clients With Addition of Two Partners

Mayer Brown announced today that two highly regarded lawyers have joined the firm to enhance its service to Japanese clients. Mr. Murase and Mr. Ito join from Morgan Lewis. Satoru Murase, a leading corporate, finance and M&A practitioner with deep experience advising global corporations in connection with cross-border investments and disputes around the world with special focus on Japan, has joined the firm’s Corporate & Securities practice in New York. Yoshihide Ito, whose practice focuses on international trade policy, economic trade sanctions, trade disputes and regulation, especially involving the US and Japan, has joined the Government & Global Trade practice in Washington DC.

“We are thrilled to welcome Satoru and Yoshi; they will help deepen Mayer Brown’s relationships with Japanese clients,” said Philip O. Brandes, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Corporate & Securities practice. “As Japanese companies navigate global markets, they seek lawyers well-versed in cross-border investment, litigation and regulatory matters. Satoru and Yoshi check all the boxes.”

Mr. Murase has extensive experience advising corporations, financial institutions, funds and governmental entities, including the Japanese government, on global investment, government relations and regulatory matters. He has particular experience representing Japanese and Asian corporations in their US transactions and disputes, as well as assisting US and European corporations in their Japanese operations. Mr. Murase provides counsel in connection with M&A transactions, finance, litigation, corporate governance, compliance, crisis management and employment matters. Mr. Murase, who is fluent in Japanese, received his AB from Harvard University and JD from Georgetown University Law Center.

Mr. Ito concentrates his practice on complex international trade policy, economic sanctions, trade disputes and transnational matters between the US and Japan, including those involving government agencies. His practice includes export and import law, as well as regulatory matters. He provides counsel on economic sanctions and embargoes, international competition regulations, litigation and dispute settlement strategy in addition to general corporate, employment and immigration matters. Mr. Ito earned his LLB from the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University and LLM from Georgetown University Law Center.
“I was attracted to Mayer Brown’s impressive experience in working with Japanese and other global companies, the collaborative culture among its partners and its excellent reputation worldwide,” said Mr. Murase.

“We look forward to further strengthening and expanding our global relationships with Japanese clients with the additions of Satoru and Yoshi,” said Marcia Goodman, leader of the firm’s Japan practice.

“Expanding the range of service offerings to our Japanese clients globally is a fundamental part of the firm’s overall strategy,” added Rupert Burrows, the leader of Mayer Brown’s Tokyo office. “With Satoru and Yoshi in the US to enhance the capabilities of our global team, we provide a significant advantage to our Japanese clients.”

The arrival of Mr. Murase and Mr. Ito comes on the heels of the opening of the firm’s new Tokyo office, which welcomed several partners, including Mr. Burrows, Shri Maski and Gordon Palmquist.
