International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of Ari Edelman as a partner in its Transactions Practice Group. Ari is a proven dealmaker in New York’s capital markets circle, having closed approximately 100 capital market transactions, including special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), initial public offerings (IPOs) and de-SPAC transactions, for some of the world’s most influential organizations. Edelman joins the firm from Reed Smith.
“We’ve been very focused this year on helping clients navigate deals across capital markets throughout the world, as well as strengthening our capabilities in this area,” Harris Siskind, global head of the transactions practice, said. “We welcome Ari and his team as part of this growth and look forward to their participation in our continuing strategy.”
According to recent data published by Refinitiv, there has been a significant increase in SPAC IPO volume, with 258 transactions closed in 2020 and 617 in 2021. Ari represented issuers and underwriters in over 30 SPAC transactions this year.
“McDermott’s strengths stretch far and wide, and I am particularly impressed by its transactions bench vigor and deal acumen, as well as its capital markets and M&A reputation,” Ari said. “This move and the specialized counsel McDermott can provide is a tremendous benefit for my clients.”
Ari focuses his practice on capital markets, including SPACs, IPOs and other public and private equity offerings. An industry heavyweight, he has represented issuers, target companies, underwriters and placement agents in many SPAC, IPO and de-SPAC transactions. Ari also represents public companies with respect to their reporting obligations and corporate governance matters, as well as issuer and underwriter clients in financing transactions, including IPOs.
Ari earned his JD from Fordham University School of Law and BA from Yeshiva University. While in law school, he was an editor for the Fordham Urban Law Journal.
The addition of Ari and his team strengthens the Firm’s global capital market reach and follows other recent notable hires, including David Cifrino in Boston, David Huberman in Chicago and Siddhartha Sivaramakrishnan in Singapore.
