International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of Kathryn (Katy) Linsky as a partner in its Global Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group. Katy joins McDermott in New York from an in-house senior privacy counsel role at Apple. Her practice is focused on counseling companies on data protection throughout the information lifecycle, including compliance with national and international regulations and data processing in product development and emerging technologies.
“Katy’s in-house experience gives her an inside track on what and how our clients think, including defining business priorities and how to address them, speaking the same language of the general counsel’s office and creating pathways to support the business priorities while complying with the law,” Todd S. McClelland, McDermott’s Global Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group leader, said. “McDermott is well known for providing practical and innovative solutions to complex legal issues in a fast-evolving privacy landscape, and Katy is an excellent addition to our team.”
Katy represents clients on the full spectrum of privacy, cybersecurity and information management issues in the context of governance and compliance, business strategy, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, incident preparedness and response and regulatory investigations. She collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, including legal and business partners, to counsel clients on product and feature development with a particular focus on privacy by design. Katy has worked with clients across industries, including consumer technologies, retail and ecommerce, healthcare and life sciences, financial services, utilities and B2B providers.
“McDermott has an excellent reputation for superior client service provided by its outstanding global privacy and cybersecurity practice,” Katy said. “Having worked in-house in my last role, I am excited to pivot and leverage that experience now on behalf of the Firm’s clients and their needs.”
Katy is the most recent addition to the Firm’s Global Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group following the arrival of Elliot Golding and Robin Campbell in Washington, DC, and Rosa Barcelo in Brussels in April 2022.
