O’Melveny announced today that leading antitrust litigator Peter Herrick has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in its Antitrust and Competition Group. Herrick comes to O’Melveny from Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider, where he was a leader in the firm’s healthcare antitrust practice and counseled clients on mergers and acquisitions, antitrust risk, and high-stakes antitrust litigation across a range of industries.
A former senior trial attorney for the Federal Trade Commission, Herrick brings nearly 20 years of antitrust experience to O’Melveny, successfully handling competition regulatory matters, complex transactions, and litigation, including six fully litigated merger challenges both for and against the government. He has represented clients in civil and criminal antitrust matters, including those involving price-fixing and restraint-of-trade allegations. He has also advocated for clients before the FTC, the Department of Justice, and other antitrust regulators.
During his tenure at the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, Herrick oversaw an array of complex antitrust matters and played a major role in a number of FTC merger challenges and investigations of healthcare, biopharma, and consumer goods companies. Among his many achievements, he co-led the FTC team in the agency’s first successfully litigated merger challenge of a hospital system’s acquisition of a physician group.
Herrick is returning to O’Melveny where he began his legal career as an associate and then counsel in the firm’s New York office. His arrival bolsters O’Melveny’s East Coast capabilities in the antitrust litigation arena, including merger litigation, monopolization, price fixing, and anti-competitive conduct representations, and he enhances the firm’s presence in the antitrust and competition enforcement community.
“I am delighted to welcome Pete back home to O’Melveny,” said O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Pete’s strong private practice experience and impressive FTC credentials make him an ideal fit as a partner on our award-winning Antitrust & Competition team. He will be an immediate asset to our clients, especially in the life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors.”
“This is a true homecoming for me, and I couldn’t be more excited and grateful to rejoin the incredible firm where I began my career 18 years ago,” said Herrick. “I look forward to serving my clients on O’Melveny’s acclaimed platform and working alongside the firm’s talented and deep antitrust team.”
Herrick’s addition accelerates O’Melveny’s rapid East Coast growth. With his arrival, 10 lateral partners have now joined O’Melveny’s New York and Washington, DC offices in the past year.
Herrick earned his J.D. with honors from Rutgers University School of Law, his M.Ed. from Rutgers Graduate School of Education, and his B.A. from Rutgers University.
