O’Melveny announced today that Rebecca Mermelstein, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and Co-Chief of the General Crimes Unit, has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in its White Collar Defense & Corporate Investigations Practice. She will advise corporate and individual clients on complex white collar matters, including regulatory actions, internal investigations, and compliance initiatives.
Mermelstein served as a federal prosecutor for 12 years, including four years on the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force and three years with the Violent and Organized Crime Unit. Her extensive experience includes handling and supervising more than 1,000 cases involving securities fraud, insider trading, accounting fraud, market manipulation, Ponzi schemes, public corruption, money laundering, human trafficking, and sex crimes. She has also conducted 12 multi-defendant white collar criminal trials, and has briefed or argued more than a dozen appeals in the Second Circuit.
Before entering government service, Mermelstein was an associate at a large global law firm, representing companies, hedge funds, private equity firms, and financial institutions in internal and government investigations, including those pursued by foreign regulators.
