Orrick announced today that Michael Masri has joined the firm as a tax partner in our New York office. Mike is a leading tax lawyer with experience in the financing, development and acquisition of energy and infrastructure projects with a particular focus on the tax incentives available for renewable energy projects. He joins Orrick from Norton Rose Fulbright.
“Mike adds to our market-leading tax team in a booming area of our energy practice. He’s highly respected by the most active players in the market, and we’re excited to grow our team with a practitioner of Mike’s caliber,” said Blake H. Winburne, leader of Orrick’s global Energy & Infrastructure practice.
“Mike is a known star in the field, and we’re excited to welcome him,” added Chas Cardall, head of Orrick’s tax practice.
Mike focuses his practice on advising clients on energy tax credits and other tax incentives relating to renewable energy projects, project development and finance, and M&A. He represents investors and developers in tax equity financings across the renewable energy sector, including wind, solar and biomass. Mike also has a broader tax practice counseling clients on a wide range of federal income tax matters, including domestic and cross-border M&A, restructurings, financings and private equity.
“Orrick stands out as a true leader in the energy market,” said Mike. “The firm has a collaborative team that acts for the top players and counsels on some of the most interesting deals in the market. I’m excited about what they’ve built, both in the U.S. and worldwide, and I look forward to collaborating with the team and further growing the firm’s practice in this area.”
Orrick offers one of the most comprehensive practices of any law firm dedicated to the energy and infrastructure sector, covering electric power, renewable energy, infrastructure and oil and gas assets. Orrick’s U.S. renewables practice is ranked Band 1 by Chambers and Legal 500 for 2018, and was a Law360 Project Finance Group of the Year for 2018 – for the fifth time. Globally, the renewables practice ranks in the top five by Inframation for Q418.
Mike’s addition follows Orrick’s launch of a Boston office earlier this month, adding a team of market-leading cybersecurity and privacy partners.
