The cross-border opportunity this presents is significant, as the U.S. remains the largest market in the world for patent, trade secret and other IP litigation matters. Keller brings unparalleled expertise in the intellectual property sector, complementing the firm’s growing U.S. litigation practice. He rejoins from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he currently serves as head of the firm’s New York Intellectual Property Disputes Group and co-head of the Autonomous Vehicle International Business Group.
U.S. Senior Partner Tim House commented: “Allen & Overy’s litigation practice is focused on maximizing our offering in the areas of disputes that are truly global, and patent and trade secret litigation clients face interconnected and interrelated threats around the world. As we further build out our U.S. IP litigation practice, starting with Paul’s hire, A&O will be the only firm to offer scaled and high-quality capabilities in each of China, Europe, and the U.S., which represent the three most important IP markets in the world.”
Keller was formerly an intellectual property partner at A&O for five years, departing in 2015. Keller’s current practice is wide-ranging with a particular focus on patent and trade secret matters in the automotive and FinTech spaces.
“Although the timing of this move is unusual given all that surrounds COVID-19, the changes and innovations that will likely take place because of the current crisis may match, if not surpass, those stemming from the 2008 financial crisis. Health care, transportation, energy, finance, consumer and retail sectors, as well as many other areas will all be impacted. Allen & Overy is not only uniquely positioned to assist clients through this turbulent time but also with the disruption and opportunities that are likely to follow,” said Keller. “I am therefore thrilled to rejoin Allen & Overy at a time of growth and added investment, and to work with the firm’s global network to support its clients through this challenging time and on the complexities and challenges to come.”
Keller is well regarded in the market, having been named to the Legal 500 List for his work in intellectual property. He received his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and his B.A. from Fordham University.
