Miriam Harwood has joined Squire Patton Boggs as a partner in the firm’s International Dispute Resolution (IDR) practice group and as Co-Head of Investment Arbitration, based in New York. She joins from Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, where she practiced for over 25 years, specializing in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration.
Ms. Harwood is one of the leading international arbitration practitioners in the world, and alongside partners Luka Misetic and Stephen Anway, creates the nucleaus of a formidable IDR team for the firm in New York.
In her broad experience in international dispute resolution, Ms. Harwood has represented numerous sovereign states including Albania, Romania, Spain, Kuwait, Libya, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Venezuela. Her many notable cases include the ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil arbitrations with Venezuela involving US$30 billion and US$16 billion, respectively, as well as disputes involving construction and infrastructure projects, renewable energy regulations, telecommunications and oil and gas projects around the world.
Ms. Harwood’s addition complements Squire Patton Boggs’ IDR practice, which already includes one of the preeminent groups representing sovereign nations in investment treaty arbitrations.
