Troutman Sanders Continues Expansion of Real Estate Practice with Addition of Two Partners and Two Associates in Charlotte and New York

Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Michael F. Tomlinson and Jeffrey H. Weitzman have joined the firm’s Real Estate practice as partners in the Charlotte and New York offices, respectively. In addition, Matthew C. Jordan and Devin Catlin have joined the firm as associates in Charlotte. All four lawyers practiced previously at K&L Gates.

Tomlinson focuses his real estate practice on representing a variety of real estate investors in their acquisition, financing and disposition of retail, office, and industrial properties. He also represents various retail, office, multi-family and industrial developers in joint ventures, leasing, acquisitions, sales and financing transactions.

Weitzman represents clients in acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and lending transactions involving warehouse/distribution properties, single and multi-tenant office buildings, shopping centers and apartments. He also has represented clients in connection with the acquisition, disposition and financing of resort hotels.

Tomlinson’s and Weitzman’s client base is institutional investors, including domestic and international pension funds, foreign sovereign wealth funds and REITs, as well as real estate developers.

“Jeffrey and Mike have collaborated over many years and have developed a very strong national real estate practice,” said Ashley Story, Chair of the firm’s Real Estate and Finance Department. “Their experience and client base align well with our strategic focus as we continue to expand and diversify our real estate and real estate finance practices.”

Tomlinson started his career in New York practicing as a real estate lawyer from 1999-2003. Following that, he moved to Charlotte and joined the real estate department of Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, which merged with K&L Gates in July 2008.

“Mike and Jeffrey are outstanding real estate lawyers,” said Walter Fisher, managing partner of the firm’s Charlotte office. “They complement and broaden the firm’s existing practice with their representation of large, institutional clients, including international real estate investors.”

“Troutman Sanders’ deep bench in real estate provides an ideal platform for our practice, which is focused on the representation of clients doing deals across the U.S.,” said Tomlinson. “The firm’s national footprint, combined with the sophistication and depth of its real estate, tax, finance and environmental practices, will enable us to provide first-rate representation to our clients in complex real estate transactions,” added Weitzman.
