Global law firm Reed Smith announced today that Timothy Rupp has joined the firm as a partner in its Global Corporate Group, the latest addition to the firm’s Orange County office, which opened in January 2023. Rupp brings to the firm sophisticated private equity and M&A experience. He joins Reed Smith from Morgan Lewis LLP.
“Within our corporate practice, three of our strategic priorities are to significantly increase our representation of private equity funds and their portfolio companies, grow our corporate capabilities in California, and capitalize on the momentum we have in Southern California with the opening of our Orange County office. Tim’s arrival helps us execute on each of these priorities and more,” said James Tandler, global co-chair of Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group. “Tim is an exceptional lawyer who has guided the largest private equity funds and their portfolio companies through complex transactions. His arrival reaffirms Reed Smith’s position as a leading firm for private equity legal counsel.”
Rupp represents private equity funds and their portfolio companies in acquisitions and dispositions of assets and controlling equity interests in businesses, as well as debt and minority equity investments. He also advises privately held companies in a variety of industries in connection with debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance matters, and other general corporate matters. Prior to practicing law, Rupp worked as a CPA for Deloitte.
“I’m excited to join Reed Smith’s Orange County office at this early stage and work with the impressive team of attorneys already there to further expand that office and assist the firm in achieving its strategic priorities in California,” said Rupp. “Reed Smith’s global footprint and wide range of legal practices and specialists provides a great platform to serve my clients and grow my practice.”
Rupp’s addition comes shortly after private equity and debt finance partner Chris Raidy joined the firm in Orange County in April, bringing the total lawyer headcount in that office to twelve. The Orange County office represents a cross-section of the firm’s global practice capabilities, including real estate, IP, regulatory and investigations, litigation, and transactional work.
“Adding Tim to our existing team brings additional bona fides to our Orange County and California offices in the private equity space – and supplements our solid practices in the emerging growth, venture capital, capital markets and strategic M&A spaces,” said John Simonis, Reed Smith’s Orange County office managing partner. “We are very excited to have Tim join us, and his arrival is further evidence that we have momentum on our side in Orange County.”
Rupp received a J.D. from USC Gould School of Law in 1997 and a B.A. from California State University, Fullerton in 1990.
