Sidley Expands Emerging Companies and Venture Capital Practice Landing Michael Podolny as a Partner in Northern California

Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Michael Podolny has joined the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices as a partner in the firm’s Emerging Companies and Venture Capital (ECVC) practice. Prior to joining Sidley, Mr. Podolny was a partner in the Silicon Valley office of Latham & Watkins LLP.

Mr. Podolny represents technology and life sciences companies throughout their life cycle, from startups to mature private and public companies, often serving as a connector to the Silicon Valley startup ecosystem. Mr. Podolny’s transactional work includes public and private financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and secondary tender offers and other liquidity programs. He also counsels clients on corporate governance, executive compensation and equity incentives, securities law compliance, and license agreements, serving as a day-to-day advisor and often the first phone call in critical times. He has a significant cross-border practice and regularly advises clients based in Israel, Australia, Europe, India, and East Asia.

“Growing our emerging companies practice is a strategic priority for the firm, and Mike will help us continue to scale that practice with his impressive roster of top-tier emerging companies and investors,” said Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley’s Management Committee chair and a member of the Executive Committee. “In addition, his significant cross-border work will allow him to collaborate with partners across our global offices to provide full-service capabilities to clients.”

“Mike brings a fantastic practice and a well-earned reputation as a trusted advisor to his clients and a leading practitioner among his peers in the Valley,” said Martin Wellington, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, managing partner of the Palo Alto office, and co-leader of the Emerging Companies and Venture Capital (ECVC) practice. “Taken together with recent partner additions Shane Goudey, Natalie Karam, and Rebecca Stuart, as well as internal partner promotions, Mike’s joining further accelerates our continuing growth in the ECVC sector.”

Sidley’s Emerging Companies and Venture Capital practice brings decades of experience to helping entrepreneurs create high-growth businesses in the information technology, life sciences, artificial intelligence, energy/cleantech, security, and agribusiness sectors. The firm also advises investors in developing and executing venture investment strategies in both domestic and international financing transactions, from small seed-rounds to much larger later-stage investments. Our lawyers have handled hundreds of portfolio investments and have long-standing relationships with a wide range of venture capital and corporate investors, including many Fortune 100 companies.
