International law firm Ashurst today announces the appointment of Yann Alix as a partner in its resources team.
Yann, who joins from Herbert Smith Freehills, is an English and French qualified lawyer with more than ten years’ experience in the resources industries. He has a particular focus on the mining and upstream oil and gas sectors in Africa and specialises in cross-border M&A, project development, foreign direct investments and international trade and development.
Commenting on the appointment, Mark Elsey, global head of resources and infrastructure, said:
“During his career Yann has worked on deals in more than 20 African countries and I am confident he will be a great addition to the team. His appointment will strengthen our resources offering in Africa. Despite challenging markets, the resources industries continue to be key areas of strategic focus for the firm. Yann will help us capitalise on the many opportunities we continue to see in these industries across the African market.”
Yann Alix added:
“I am excited to join Ashurst and to help develop further Ashurst’s market-leading resources business. Africa is a fast-growing region for both foreign and domestic investment, with oil gas and mining remaining cornerstones of the market. I’m looking forward to working with the team to maximise our offering to Africa-focused clients.”
Ashurst continues to build on its strength in the resources and infrastructure sectors with significant new partner hires and promotions, reflecting the firm’s continued commitment to invest further in these areas. Yann will be the fifth new partner to join the resources and infrastructure global team in the last two months. The firm recently announced the hires of London-based real estate partners, Darren Rogers and Patrick Williams, who joined Ashurst from King & Wood Mallesons, oil and gas partner Jon Ornolfsson, who joined from Herbert Smith Freehills and is based in Singapore, and Frankfurt-based infrastructure partner Maximilian Uibeleisen who joined the firm from Noerr.
The firm has also just promoted the following resources and infrastructure lawyers to the partnership: Julia Derrick and Donna Fleming in London, Rebecca Dixon in Sydney, Guillaume Aubatier in Paris, Stuart James in Perth and Hendrik Theismann in Frankfurt.
