Eversheds Sutherland has welcomed private equity partner Gautier Elies to its Paris Corporate practice. Gautier will enhance the firm’s service offering and strengthen its ability to meet clients’ needs in private equity and M&A. Gautier began his career at Weil in 2005, first as an associate and then as counsel, before joining Mayer Brown in January 2020 as a partner in the Corporate & Securities department.
Gautier joins Head of Consumer (International) and Head of Paris Corporate Catherine Detalle, with whom he began his career at Weil Gotshal & Manges, and five other partners in the Paris Corporate team.
He advises French and foreign investors, investment funds and individuals on their domestic and cross-border private equity and M&A transactions. His practice covers sectors including healthcare, media, retail, IT services, telecoms and agribusiness.
Gautier’s focus within the Paris team will be on opening up new market segments by engaging in small and mid-cap to large cap transactions, and supporting targets throughout their development. Given the potential for transformation and growth in this sector, Gautier will work cross-practice with teams including finance, employment, tax and antitrust. He will also collaborate cross-office and cross-border. Being able to draw on the strength of Eversheds Sutherland’s international network, particularly in continental Europe, specifically Germany, Spain, Benelux and Italy, was a key driver in Guatier’s decision to join the firm.
Remi Kleiman, Paris Senior Office Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, commented:
“Gautier’s arrival is further proof of the multidisciplinary quality of our firm, and confirms our commitment to offering our clients an ever more comprehensive range of services, covering all their needs with a dedicated, integrated team.”
Catherine Detalle, Head of Paris Corporate, Eversheds Sutherland, said:
“The arrival of Gautier Elies is in line with Eversheds Sutherland’s ambition to further develop the Corporate practice in Paris. His experience and strong network among leading private equity players will be essential to achieving our goal. His collaborative approach is a perfect fit with the firm’s culture, and there is no doubt that he will integrate the team in a fully operational way.”
Gautier Elies, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, added:
“I’m particularly enthusiastic and happy to be joining Eversheds Sutherland. The team spirit, pragmatism and dynamism that drive the firm in France and around the world correspond in every way to my vision of the legal profession. In particular, I’m delighted to be joining a firm that is ambitious and keen to pursue the development of its Corporate and Private Equity practice in France and internationally. On a more personal level, I’m looking forward to continuing to practice my profession with talented, caring and resolutely collective colleagues.”
Gautier holds an advanced degree (DEA) in Civil and Commercial Obligations Law (2001), and (a DESS) in International Business Law (2002) from the University of Paris-Descartes and an LLM in General Law from New York University (2003). He is a member of the Paris and New York bars.
