Stradley Ronon Nabs IP Leader

Stradley Ronon announced today that intellectual property attorney Philip J. Foret has joined the firm as a partner in its Malvern, Pennsylvania, office. He was most recently co-chair of the intellectual property group at Dilworth Paxson LLP.

Foret represents clients in the full range of intellectual property matters, including IP counseling and opinions, patent and trademark prosecution, trademark and copyright matters, and transactional IP due diligence. He has assisted many clients in developing worldwide patent and trademark portfolios with comprehensive strategies toward enforcement, competitive landscapes, licensing and protecting commercial embodiments. He helps companies leverage both IP rights and technology through licensing, technology, joint development and research agreements. Foret’s experience spans many industries, including consumer and pet products, food science, industrial chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, stem cell technology, industrial manufacturing processes and systems, telecommunications, data systems technology, financial services, business methods and sporting goods.

In addition to his deep IP counseling practice, Foret has experience in IP litigation, representing clients in patent infringement cases in federal courts and arbitrations, as well as filing amicus briefs with the Federal Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court in the seminal In re Bilski case. He has also successfully argued domain name disputes before the National Arbitration Forum and has resolved trademark disputes through administrative proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

“Phil’s deep practice and leadership experience make him an excellent fit for our flourishing IP group,” said Stradley Ronon Chairman William R. Sasso. “And given the substantial growth of our clients in the high-tech area, Phil’s vast knowledge of protecting and enforcing domestic and international intellectual property rights will serve us well in expanding the scope of our client services.”

“Stradley Ronon’s entrepreneurial culture, strong client base and value-driven service provide me with a tremendous platform from which to grow my practice,” said Foret. “I was very impressed with the firm’s substantial presence in the mid-Atlantic region, especially its expanding New York office. Its strong bench of legal talent across many practice groups and industries complement my practice and my clients’ needs.”

Foret is Stradley Ronon’s second lateral partner hire in Pennsylvania this summer, coming on the heels of former McCarter & English Partner Mark Villanueva’s arrival at the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Stradley Ronon’s intellectual property practice group handles patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets, using decades of experience to protect clients’ IP assets and handle the full scope of their IP matters. The group’s attorneys regularly assist clients with drafting and prosecuting U.S. or international patent and trademark applications; filing copyright registration applications; conducting due diligence reviews and analyses; providing infringement and validity legal opinions; handling trade secret matters; IP trial level and appellate level litigation; IP alternative dispute resolution; portfolio strategy development and counseling; licensing; and protecting IP assets or avoiding the IP rights of others.
The Legal Intelligencer named the firm’s IP group a finalist in the publication’s first-ever “Best Law Firm Corporate Practices” awards, noting that the practice has “grown quickly and confidently.” Stradley Ronon’s IP client roster boasts a diverse range of successful companies, including Air Products, Martin Guitar, Pentech, Prezacor and Titan Spine.

“Phil is well respected in the IP industry, and we are excited to welcome him to the firm,” said Stradley Ronon Intellectual Property Practice Group Chair Kevin R. Casey. “His addition is part of our strategic plan to continue to expand our IP practice with high-quality, responsive and passionate lawyers who are looking for a more collaborative culture in which to practice.”

Before joining Dilworth Paxson, Foret worked for Pittsburgh IP boutique The Webb Law Firm, as well as Alcoa, Inc. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Trademark Association. Foret also sits on the board of directors of the Great Valley School District and has also served on the board of directors of the Chester County School Authority.

Foret received his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law, his M.S. from Duquesne University Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, and his B.A. from Franciscan University.
