McGuireWoods Further Strengthens Financial Services Litigation Practice With Two New Pittsburgh Partners

McGuireWoods continues significantly strengthening its financial service litigation and investigation team with the arrival of Pittsburgh partners Issac deVyver and Jarrod Shaw. The additions come on the heels of recent moves in New York, Pittsburgh and San Francisco, where the firm opened its 22nd office last week.

Shaw and deVyver come to McGuireWoods from the Pittsburgh office of Reed Smith, reuniting them with Mary Hackett, who joined McGuireWoods last week. She headed Reed Smith’s financial services litigation group and is a former chief litigation counsel for PNC Financial Services Group.

“Financial institutions and other businesses are struggling with a rising tide of litigation and class actions,” said Managing Partner Tom Cabaniss. “By adding talented and experienced litigators such as Jarrod and Issac we bolster our ability to help our many financial services and other clients meet the unprecedented challenges they face.”

“Our clients, which include many of the world’s leading financial institutions, need lawyers who truly understand the intricacies of their businesses and the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate,” said Brad Kutrow, chair of McGuireWoods’ Financial Services Litigation Department. “Mary, Jarrod and Issac have the industry insight our clients value. And they provide unmatched client service.”

Shaw handles complex commercial and class action litigation involving financial services and other industries. He has defended financial institutions in litigation and before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He also has worked with a Pittsburgh-based technology client on an investigation initiated by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

“McGuireWoods has an elite financial services litigation practice and an unmatched reputation when it comes to client service,” Shaw said. “I am looking forward to leveraging McGuireWoods’ reputation to grow my practice.”

DeVyver’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and class actions involving banks, loan servicers, credit card companies and other financial institutions. He has handled more than 100 individual matters and class actions involving mortgage lending. He also has represented securities lending agents in more than a dozen state and federal cases arising from the global financial crisis, with potential damages ranging from $10 million to more than $100 million.

“McGuireWoods is a perfect fit for my practice and I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues to help our clients in the financial services sector,” Issac said.

Ben Sitter, who worked with deVyver and Shaw as a financial litigator at Reed Smith, also joins the firm as an associate in the Pittsburgh office.

McGuireWoods was named “Law Firm of the Year” for banking and finance litigation in the 2016 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms.” The firm also is among the highest-ranked firms in 2016’s “BTI Litigation Outlook” report, honored as a “Powerhouse” for complex commercial litigation and as a “Standout” for class actions. BTI ranked McGuireWoods sixth out of more than 300 firms on its 2016 “Client Service A-Team” which highlights an elite group of firms singled out for their client service excellence based on feedback from clients in major companies.
