Experienced privacy and data security attorney Tara Cho has joined Womble Bond Dickinson as a Partner in the firm’s Raleigh office. Cho previously practiced with the Raleigh boutique firm Wyrick Robbins Yates & Ponton LLP.
Cho advises clients in numerous industries, including technology, retail, e-commerce and healthcare, on cybersecurity and data privacy matters such as the development and implementation of compliance programs, data breach response, regulator investigation and enforcement, and transactions involving data assets. Clients turn to Cho for guidance with HIPAA, COPPA, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CCPA, GDPR, EU-US Privacy Shield matters, and other international, federal and state privacy, security and data breach laws.
She has a particular focus on privacy and data security in the healthcare sector, guiding healthcare entities and providers, pharmacies, drug and device manufacturers, contract research organizations, health app developers, and other healthcare industry clients in all aspects of privacy and data security law.
In addition, Cho guides clients in privacy and cybersecurity issues involving the development of mobile and web-based applications, cloud computing, use of machine learning and AI tools, patient outreach programs and patient portals, IoT devices, and other technology solutions that rely on personal information.
“Privacy and data security are key concerns for our clients, both here in the Triangle and across the globe,” said Beth Tyner Jones, Managing Partner of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Raleigh and Research Triangle Park offices. “Tara has an outstanding track record of guiding clients in these increasingly important areas of operations.”
“Privacy and data security matters involve business and technical concerns, in addition to legal issues. Tara is well-versed in all three, providing solutions that truly serve clients’ needs. We are delighted to have her on the Womble Bond Dickinson team,” said Ted Claypoole, co-Chair of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Privacy and Cybersecurity team.
“Womble Bond Dickinson is known for both its strong Privacy and Cybersecurity practice and the firm’s devotion to client service,” Cho said. “I feel strongly that Womble Bond Dickinson will provide my clients with an outstanding level of service and support.”
A North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Privacy and Information Security Law Specialist, Cho is the second key privacy and data security partner to join Womble Bond Dickinson in recent weeks. Attorney Peter McLaughlin joined the firm’s Boston office in late June.
