Orrick Adds Corporate Partner in Italy with a Unique Focus on China

Orrick announced today that Betty L. Louie has joined its M&A and Private Equity practice in Rome. Betty focuses on cross-border M&A and is a leader in representing Chinese companies in investments in Italy and Europe. She is the fourth partner to join Orrick in Italy in the past year, and was previously with DLA Piper.

A Chambers Global-ranked, New York-qualified lawyer, Betty has practiced in Italy for more than seven years, advising publicly-traded and private companies, financial institutions and private equity firms on cross-border M&A and capital markets transactions. The only Chinese-speaking U.S.-qualified lawyer based in Italy, she has an extensive record of successfully representing Chinese companies (including state-owned enterprises and publicly-listed companies), investment funds and banks in their acquisitions and operations in complex European investments.

Orrick represents a number of Chinese enterprises in investments and dispute resolution around the world through the firm’s Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai offices and offices worldwide.

Betty earned her J.D. from Northwestern University, where she was articles editor of the Northwestern Law Review. She received a Certificate of International Trade from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing and a B.A. in International Relations and Affairs from Tufts University. Betty is fluent in Mandarin, English and Italian. She previously practiced for over ten years in New York as a partner.

Since January 2015, Orrick has added four partners to its offices in Milan and Rome. In addition, Betty is the 10th partner to join the firm’s global M&A and private equity team in this period.
