Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce the addition of Ryan Waterman as a shareholder in its San Diego office. Waterman’s practice focuses on land use, CEQA/NEPA environmental review, and water and natural resource issues. Well known for his expertise in permitting a wide range of complex projects, including renewable solar and wind energy, mixed use, and commercial projects, Waterman also counsels clients on compliance with Clean Water Act permitting, including California’s new Industrial Storm Water permit.
“Ryan’s knowledge on land use and environmental issues, as well as his deep familiarity with the land use entitlement process and CEQA/NEPA environmental review, make him a strong addition to our Natural Resources Department,” said Ellen Schulhofer, co-managing partner of the firm.
Waterman’s practice also expands the firm’s Water Group, which includes nearly 30 attorneys and public policy professionals with focused water practices in California, Nevada and Colorado, and at the federal level. Attorneys practicing water law from the firm’s California offices have significant experience working on a broad range of water issues in the west and southwest, from compliance and permitting matters to implementation of California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014.
Waterman earned his law degree in 2003 from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), where he also earned a Master of City Planning. Prior to joining Brownstein, Ryan was Of Counsel at Stoel Rives, LLP, in San Diego, an associate at Latham & Watkins, LLP, in San Diego, an adjunct professor of law at the University of San Diego, School of Law, and a law clerk to the Hon. Jeanne E. Scott, U.S. District Court Judge in the Central District of Illinois.
