Winston & Strawn LLP today announced Donald S. Davidson will join the firm’s San Francisco office as partner in the litigation practice. Mr. Davidson was formerly a partner at Bingham McCutchen LLP where he practiced securities litigation and handled a wide range of matters for broker-dealers, investment advisers, and investment companies. He is the fourth attorney to join Winston & Strawn’s West Coast offices in just the last month.
“We are delighted to welcome Don to the Winston team,” said Joan Fife, San Francisco managing partner. “His extensive experience with securities and regulatory matters will be a great addition to our focused growth strategy for expanding our presence on the West Coast.”
“Don’s experience with security and regulatory matters adds depth to the scope of our specialties within the litigation department,” added Robb Adkins, partner and white collar, regulatory defense and investigations practice chair. “He is a welcome addition to our team and will help us establish a more balanced securities litigation practice from coast to coast.”
Mr. Davidson has represented clients in litigation and in regulatory inquiries involving the SEC, FINRA and its predecessors, the Department of Justice, and state and foreign securities regulators. These matters have included municipal finance, market timing, insider trading, revenue sharing and issues arising under the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, various state blue-sky statutes, and SRO rules. Mr. Davidson also advises clients on compliance and risk management issues.
“Winston has a strong securities litigation practice particularly with the addition of the former Dewey securities litigation practice in New York with a solid reputation,” said Mr. Davidson. “I look forward to introducing my clients to the broader platform that Winston provides me.”
Mr. Davidson formerly served as deputy general counsel and senior vice president at UBS Financial Services Inc., and as deputy chief of the Criminal Division in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, where he gained extensive experience handling complex white-collar criminal cases. He received a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from State University of New York, and a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, where he was a merit scholar.
